Centre for Better Health Futures, Charles Darwin University

Raising the benchmark for health training infrastructure in Northern Australia

Charles Darwin University (CDU) has unveiled its new health teaching and training facility, the $30.8 million Centre for Better Health Futures. The centre is a landmark three-story facility located at CDU’s Casuarina campus.

It will support the Territory’s first medical program and upgraded facilities for nursing, paramedicine, and allied health training.

Spantech was engaged by SHAPE Australia to manufacture and supply a key feature of the building - the Spantech Longreach roof.

The Spantech Longreach roof seamlessly integrates with a large atrium-style skylight to connect the two buildings that comprise this modern facility.

The forty-nine metre Longreach roofing profiles were rolled on site and craned into place. This process reduced material use and made the installation more efficient.

Project funding includes $15 million from the Australian Government, with CDU contributing $15.8 million.

The centre will officially open to students in the first quarter of 2026.
